Registered Nurse (RN) – 6N Overflow Unit

Location: Wheeling, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week

Unit and Patient Information

• Unit size: 30 beds
• Patient types commonly seen: Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), cellulitis, rule outs (R/O), cholecystitis, appendicitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, acute kidney injury (AKI)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: Typically 1:6 or 1:7; RN must be comfortable with ratios up to 1:7
• Charge nurse: One charge RN on the floor with assignment
• Nurse aides: Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) available on the unit
• Respiratory therapy equipment: No ventilators; intermittent use of BiPAP
• Telemetry: Yes, monitored remotely by monitor technicians
• Drip titration: RNs are required to titrate heparin drips based on aPTT results

Scheduling and Work Environment

• Scheduling system: Transitioning to Qgenda
• Weekend and holiday coverage: Scheduled as needed, usually about half of the weekends
• Standby or on-call requirement: None
• Floating: Required as needed based on census; external travelers are the first to float
• Scrub color: Navy blue

Required Certifications and Licenses

• Current RN license valid in West Virginia
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license with submission
• Any licensing issues must be disclosed at time of submission

Additional Notes

• 50-mile radius rule applies for candidate submissions
• No ventilator management on this unit
• Night shift focus with 12-hour shifts and weekend scheduling as needed

This position is suitable for RNs comfortable with moderate acuity patients, telemetry monitoring, and working in a fast-paced overflow unit with variable patient ratios.
