Med/Surg Tele - 4 West RN

Overview

• 13-week contract
• 12-hour night shifts
• Unit: Med/Surg - 4 West
• 24-bed mixed med surg and tele unit
• Location: Fremont, California

Required Qualifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• 1 year of recent MedSurg experience
• Comfortable with a 1:5 ratio, including total care patients

Clinical Details

• Primarily medical diagnoses, with less surgical volume
• Common patient types include UTI, pleural effusions, AMS, hepatic encephalopathy, dehydration, sepsis, PNA, and COPD
• Unit has tele capability, but RNs are not required to read strips
• RNs titrate heparin only, per protocol
• No trachs or vents
• CPAP may be used if it is the patient’s regular home routine
• Stable BiPAP patients may be cared for on the unit
• No proper infrastructure for high-flow oxygen

Scheduling and Staffing

• 12-hour shifts, 7a/7p
• No self-scheduling
• Travelers fill in where needed
• Every other weekend required
• Holidays rotate with permanent staff
• No call or standby requirement
• Charge nurse does not take patients
• Break nurse is staffed if census is over 8 patients
• Nurse aides are available

Floating

• May float to other MSTele unit

Dress Code

• Navy blue top and bottom scrubs only
• Black or white shoes
• Tattoos must be covered
