Registered Nurse (Med Surg/IMC/Telemetry) - Night Shift

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit Type: Intermediate Care (IMC) / Stepdown, Med Surg with Telemetry
• Beds: 28
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day/PM: 1:5 average
  • Night: 1:5-7 (must be comfortable with up to 7 patients)
• Patient Population:

  • Up to 75% cardiac patients (pre/post cath, chest pain, NSTEMI, no post-CABG but procedural cardiac cases)
  • Other diagnoses include CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, wounds, stroke overflow

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license appropriate for Wisconsin
• Minimum 1 year experience in Telemetry, IMC, or Stepdown nursing
• Majority of experience must be cardiac-focused (heavy cardiac unit experience)
• Must have drip (IV medication) experience and be comfortable titrating drips such as insulin, heparin, nitro, diltiazem, and lasix
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
• Good communication, teamwork, and work ethic essential
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred but not mandatory

Job Responsibilities & Environment

• RNs are required to titrate drips and monitor cardiac rhythms using unit monitors (telemetry techs monitor remotely)
• Charge nurse carries a partial patient assignment and provides support to staff
• Nurse aides support the unit with ratios approximately 1:9 day/PM and 1:14 night if fully staffed
• Respiratory therapy equipment includes continuous CPAP/BiPAP, high flow oxygen, vapotherm, nebulizers, and chest physiotherapy; no ventilators on unit
• Floating to other Med/Surg floors is required; may float outside cluster for 1:1 patient observation or other specialty areas if qualified

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour night shifts: 1900-0700
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday requirement: Every other holiday
• No on-call or standby for agency staff; scheduling in 4-hour blocks possible for reallocation based on staffing needs
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling attempts made but not guaranteed

Orientation & Dress Code

• Orientation: 1 twelve-hour day off-unit plus 1 twelve-hour shift on-unit
• Dress code: Any color scrubs, clean and professional; scrubs not provided

Additional Notes

• Clinicians who have previously worked at this facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to submission
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
