Location: Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Nurse for a travel assignment. The role involves caring for laboring or preterm pregnant patients (gestations 28 weeks and greater) in a Level II EQ and Level 1 Trauma Center setting. The nurse will be responsible for circulating and recovering C-sections confidently and providing care on a unit with approximately 18 LDRP beds, 14 OB triage beds, and 8 antepartum beds.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience
- Active Arizona nursing license or compact license
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NRP certifications
- Experience with C-sections (circulating and recovery)
- Computer charting experience required, preferably with Cerner EMR
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (80% passing score, max 2 attempts) prior to starting
- Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
- COVID vaccine required or approved declination form with hospital approval
Unit Details
- Average deliveries: 8-10 per day (approx. 322-344 per month)
- 2 fully equipped OR suites for C-sections
- Nurse-to-patient ratios mostly 2:1 depending on acuity; Antepartum 4:1; C-sections 1:1
- Fetal monitoring system: Fetal Link
- No nurse aides on unit
- No tele or ventilator patients on unit
- OB Hospitalist and Anesthesia available 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7, including vents, CPAP, BiPAP
- IV team available if needed
Work Schedule & Orientation
- Night shifts: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- 4 weekend shifts per schedule required
- No mandatory call or standby; voluntary only
- Holiday coverage preferred but not required
- One week floor-specific orientation
- Floating to Mother-Baby/Postpartum units as needed
Additional Information
- Nurses will titrate Pitocin and Magnesium Sulfate per protocol
- Scrub color: Blue (scrub not required)
- Unit follows AWHONN guidelines and staffing ratios, though not always met daily
- Travelers should be comfortable with dysrhythmia content prior to applying
- First to float, may float to a nearby facility if needed
This position is ideal for L&D nurses with solid clinical skills in C-sections, fetal monitoring, and labor support, who are comfortable working nights and weekends in a busy hospital environment.
