Job Opportunity: CVOR RN - California (Northridge)

Position Overview

A hospital in California is seeking an experienced CVOR RN for a travel contract position. The role involves working in a Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) with a focus on various surgical cases including open heart, valves, thoracotomy, trauma, and general OR cases.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Experience

• Minimum 3-5 years of nursing experience preferred (general OR experience including trauma, ortho, general, ENT, plastics, vascular, neuro, robotics)
• 2 full years of CVOR nursing experience required
• Travel experience preferred but not explicitly required

Required Certifications and Licenses

• Active California RN License
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Work Environment and Schedule

• Unit: CVOR with 12 general OR suites, 1 CVOR suite, and 1 hybrid room
• Average 14 cases per day
• Nurse to patient ratio: 1:1
• EMR system: Cerner Surginet
• Charge nurse role available
• 8-hour shifts:

  • 6:45am - 3:15pm
  • 2:45pm - 11:15pm
  • 10:45pm - 7:15am (night shift RN will be the only RN with one tech; must be very experienced and comfortable)
• Weekend call requirements vary by shift:

  • 7am-3pm shift: one weekend of call every 6 weeks
  • 3pm-11pm shift: one weekend of call every 4 weeks
  • 11pm-7am shift: variable weekend call
• Weekday call required 4-8 times per 4-week schedule (self-scheduled, call hours from end of shift until 7am next day)
• Call response time: 30 minutes
• Holidays: 1 major and 1 minor holiday in both summer and winter months
• No floating for RNs or techs
• Floor-specific orientation: 2-3 shifts on unit

Typical Cases

• General OR: ortho (total joints), gyn, urology, trauma, ENT, plastics, vascular, neuro, robotics (Da Vinci)
• CVOR: open heart, valves, thoracotomy, trauma
• Transplants are not performed
• Travelers will not be required to perform CVOR procedures unless specifically requested

Additional Information

• Scrubbing is preferred but not required for RNs
• RT (Respiratory Therapy) and Pharmacy available 24/7
• Surgeon on call is not in-house 24/7; OB anesthesia is in-house 24/7 as needed
• Scrub color and supplies provided
• Telemetry: GE Space Labs
• Call teams divided into heart and regular teams
