Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (LDRP)

Location: Williston, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) unit. This role involves providing care primarily to obstetric and neonatal patients, with some float responsibilities to Medsurg and ER as needed. The unit includes 15 beds (7 L&D, 8 Postpartum) and handles approximately 58 births per month.


Work Environment & Schedule

  • Shifts: 06:45–19:15 and 18:45–07:15
  • Scheduling: Block scheduling only (no self-scheduling)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
  • Call/Standby: Depends on staffing
  • Floating: Required to float to Medsurg, ER, or other hospital areas as needed
  • Orientation: 3 shifts of unit-specific orientation
  • Dress Code: Maroon scrubs provided; nurses change into surgical scrubs on unit

Patient Care & Unit Details

  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • 1:1 for patients on pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips
    • 1:3 for couplet care
  • Common patient diagnoses: Obstetric/neonatal care, hypertension, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)
  • Unit includes 1 OR suite for C-sections
  • No in-house OB/Neonatologist or anesthesia 24/7
  • Respiratory therapy equipment available; RNs troubleshoot but do not operate
  • No Tele/Monitor Techs; RNs read their own fetal monitoring strips
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) system: Traceview/PIP
  • EMR system: Meditech

Required Skills & Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and interpret fetal heart rate strips
  • Critical thinking and adherence to quality metrics
  • Titration of drips including pitocin, insulin, and magnesium
  • Charge nurse present on each shift and takes assignment
  • Collaboration with CNAs for patient care tasks such as vitals, transfers, ambulation
  • Adaptability, strong communication skills, and critical thinking are essential
  • Must be able to float to Medsurg and ER units as needed

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Dakota
  • BLS Certification (required)
  • Preferred: ACLS, NRP, STABLE certifications
