Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Obstetrics (L&D/PP/MB)

Location: Macomb, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• OB Unit with:

  • 3 Labor & Delivery rooms
  • 1 OB-specific OR
  • 4 triage beds (including LDRs)
  • 7 postpartum beds
• Approximately 300 births per year
• Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines

Required Skills & Certifications

• Experience in labor, newborn nursery, and postpartum care
• Certifications: NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Ability to titrate magnesium sulfate and Pitocin

Common Diagnoses Encountered

• Preeclampsia
• Gestational Hypertension
• Gestational Diabetes
• Fetal Growth Restriction
• Large for Gestational Age

Staff & Support

• Charge Nurse and House Supervisor available
• New graduates may serve temporarily as techs
• No 24/7 in-house OB/Neonatologist coverage

Technology & Equipment

• RNs read fetal strips using an electronic fetal monitoring system
• Respiratory support available including vents, CPAP, BiPAP

Work Schedule & Requirements

• 12-hour shifts (7 AM to 7 PM) with a flexible schedule
• 2 weekends per month required
• Holiday shifts required
• No on-call duties for travelers
• May float to assist other departments as needed

Dress Code

• Scrubs provided (black shoes, black pants, purple scrub top)

Orientation

• Unit-specific onboarding provided for 7 PM to 7 AM shift

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum of 2 years of RN experience in Obstetrics, including Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn Nursery
• Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
• Experience in newborn nursery and postpartum care
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
• Experience titrating magnesium sulfate and Pitocin
