Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg Swing Bed

Location: Schuyler, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (12-hour night shifts)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit: Med / Tele Swing Unit
Beds: 10
Nurse:Patient Ratio: Typically 1:3-4
Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics primarily; occasional pediatrics. Majority are swing bed patients needing IV antibiotics, therapy, or wound care. Medical diagnoses include diabetes, pancreatitis, pneumonia, etc.

Job Description

• Acute CAH RN experience required for this swing bed position.
• May float to Emergency Department as needed for backup during high volume.
• Self-scheduling available with manager approval.
• Weekend requirement: at least every 3rd weekend, sometimes every other.
• Holiday rotation per unit needs.
• Orientation: 2 days of unit/department-specific training.
• Scrub color: Navy blue.
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes assignment.
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a ratio of 1:8.
• Team-oriented environment with a family feel and strong ancillary department collaboration.
• Must be willing to assist wherever needed due to small team size.

Required Certifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska.
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Must pass a pass/fail open book exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%.
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination.
• Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate is within a 50-mile radius.
• Candidates may not currently be employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large health system.
• Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed.
• Float to ED as backup support when surgical volumes are high.

Experience

• Acute CAH RN experience required.
• No explicit prior travel experience required.

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Shifts: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700 available.
• Self-scheduling with manager approval.
• Weekend and holiday rotations required.
• Small hospital in a friendly Midwest community.
