ER Nurse Opportunity - Klamath Falls, Oregon

Position Details

  • Specialty: Emergency Room (ER) Nurse
  • Location: Klamath Falls, Oregon
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift Rotation: Day/Evening/Night rotation scheduled in 4-week blocks; may remain on one block or switch with advanced notice
  • Start Date: Orientations held twice monthly
  • Orientation: Minimum 2 days of unit-specific orientation before starting

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty Experience: At least 1 year of ER nursing experience (implied by requirement for completed travel assignment)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Required; no new travelers accepted—must have completed at least one prior travel assignment
  • Experience or skills in mental health, alcohol intoxication (ETOH), and overdose cases are must-haves

Work Environment & Patient Population

  • Separate triage area with 2 rooms
  • Separate psych hold rooms (2) and overflow psych area, all separate from main ED
  • Common patient diagnoses: Chest Pain (CP), COPD, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), Trauma, Stroke
  • ED Physicians and Mid-Levels present
  • Dedicated charge nurse and house supervisor on site
  • Support staff includes ED techs and patient sitters
  • EMR system: EPIC; Pyxis medication system
  • Respiratory therapy equipment available: vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen; RT performs ABGs, breathing treatments, and emergency gas studies
  • Telemetry monitors in every room with 24/7 monitor tech support; RNs read strips
  • X-Ray and CT available in ER with transport services
  • Phlebotomy performed by both nurses and dedicated phlebotomists

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Must be willing to work any or all shifts in the rotation:
    • 0645 Day
    • 0945 Mid
    • 1145 Mid
    • 1345 Mid
    • 1845 Night
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • Holiday coverage: at least one holiday off (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Independence Day, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day)
  • No call or standby requirements
  • No floating to other units
  • Dress code: any scrubs, no uniforms
  • Alternate work week schedules for mid and night shifts (e.g., 48/24 vs 36/36 hours)

Additional Notes

  • Oregon Emergency License accepted; background check required
  • Housing may be challenging; candidates should research local housing options prior to assignment
  • Fast track available in the ER unit
