Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (RN) - Night Shift

Location: Kearney, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Overview

Seeking experienced Night PCU RNs for a 12-hour shift schedule with 36 hours guaranteed weekly. The role requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and the ability to work well within a diverse team and patient population.

Requirements

• Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) RN
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of unit experience in PCU or similar setting
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• Competencies:

  • Must be competent in managing Arterial Lines
  • Ability to titrate drips such as Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
  • Must read and interpret telemetry strips independently
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Unit Details

• Beds: 40 beds, average daily census of 24
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5 (day and night)
• Support Staff: Nurse aides/patient care techs with a ratio of 1:12
• Charge Nurse: Present on each shift and takes patient assignments
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: High flow oxygen devices; RNs troubleshoot as needed
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular issues, sepsis, respiratory conditions, stroke, post-stent, post-pacemaker placement, renal failure
• Floating: Required to float to MedSurg or ICU for PCU acuity patients

Scheduling & Orientation

• Shifts: 0630-1830 and 1830-0630 (12-hour shifts, night shift focus)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
• Orientation: 1 day of unit-specific orientation
• Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved

Additional Information

• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
• Policies:

  • Artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas
  • Driver’s license required to verify candidate location within 50-mile radius
  • Pass/fail exam during orientation requiring 90% to pass
  • No blocked scheduling except weekends (subject to approval)
  • No duo assignments or shared care schedules approved
• Equipment: Overhead lifts in half the rooms, portable lifts, vein finders, bladder scanners
• Patient Population: Diverse cultural backgrounds, primarily Hispanic and Somalian
• Success Factors: Team player, adaptable, flexible, receptive to feedback, strong communication skills
