Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (RN)

Required Experience & Certifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent ER nursing experience (prefer more)
• Prior travel experience required
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – may be waived if candidate has strong ER experience
• EPIC experience required

Department & Patient Care Details

• Trauma Level: Stroke and STEMI receiving, Level 2 for adults and pediatrics
• ER Size: 35 beds with 2 trauma bays
• Fast Track: Yes, 8 beds
• Separate triage area using ESI triage algorithm
• Psych/seclusion rooms staffed by ER nurses
• Security present in ER during highest volume times
• Average patients treated per day: 111
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
• Common diagnoses: Gunshot wounds, violent crime injuries, strokes, STEMI, mental health issues, pediatric respiratory illnesses and fractures, trauma patients
• Common drips: All critical care drips

Team & Support Staff

• ED Physicians and Mid-level providers available (up to 2 MDs and 3 midlevels during busiest times)
• Charge Nurse/team lead available 24/7
• Support staff includes LPNs (nights), techs, paramedics (tech duties and IVs), who also assist with blood draws and EKGs
• Respiratory Therapists respond to all codes and cover respiratory tasks (not housed in ER)
• ER nurses monitor and read telemetry strips
• X-Ray and CT located next door; nurse transports critical patients and after-hours patients

Work Schedule & Orientation

• Multiple shift start times between 5 AM and 9 PM; shifts are 12 hours
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: every other holiday
• No call or standby requirement
• No floating requirement
• Orientation: One 12-hour shift
• Scrub color: Caribbean Blue

• Trauma experience beneficial but not explicitly required if strong ER background present
