Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med Surg) - Days

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a Medical-Surgical unit on day shifts. The role involves comprehensive nursing care including assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in accordance with hospital policies and the state Nursing Practice Act.

Required Qualifications

• License: Current RN license in Maine or compact license accepted
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) preferred
• Education: BSN preferred
• Experience: Minimum 1 year nursing experience (implied by job level and responsibilities)
• Immunizations:

  • Varicella (2 doses or titer)
  • Hepatitis B (3 doses or titer or declination accepted)
  • MMR (2 doses or titer)
  • Tdap
  • PPD (2-step or titer within past 12 months)
  • Flu shot required during flu season

Job Responsibilities

• Perform initial and ongoing age-appropriate nursing assessments
• Complete discharge assessments and plans
• Develop and implement patient care plans based on physician orders
• Administer medications correctly using the five rights and evaluate patient responses
• Communicate patient care activities and updates to healthcare team members
• Document patient care activities according to standards and policies
• Assist with patient charges and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and bedside rounding
• Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff, including proper use and availability of supplies and equipment
• Participate in hospital quality improvement programs and emergency/disaster preparedness planning and response
• Provide patient and family education as needed
• Perform follow-up calls to patients

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Requires standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, bending, reaching, balance, lifting, and pushing patients in wheelchairs and stretchers
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
• Visual and hearing acuity sufficient to assess patients
• Possible exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and toxic chemicals

Additional Information

• Facility may cancel up to 3 shifts within a 12-week period
• No prior travel experience required for this position

This position is ideal for an RN with solid Med Surg experience looking for a 13-week contract in Maine.
