Job Opportunity: Medical Laboratory Technician / Medical Laboratory Scientist

Location: Tuba City, Arizona
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Perform specimen processing, testing, and reporting of test results in compliance with regulatory requirements and policies. Work in a hospital laboratory setting providing services in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank, microbiology, and clinical microscopy. The laboratory operates 24-hour coverage with rotating day, evening, or night shifts, including weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.


Requirements

Education

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT):

  • High school graduate or GED, AND
  • Either:
    • Completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course (minimum 50 weeks) with military occupational specialty as Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician), OR
    • Completed 60 semester hours at an accredited institution, including either:
      • 24 semester hours of Medical Laboratory or Clinical Laboratory Science courses, OR
      • 24 semester hours of science courses including at least:
        • 6 semester hours chemistry
        • 6 semester hours biology
        • 12 semester hours chemical, biological, or medical technologic/laboratory science

Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS):

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, AND
  • Completed either:
    • 48 semester hours of medical laboratory technology or clinical laboratory science courses, OR
    • 48 semester hours of coursework including:
      • 12 semester hours chemistry (general chemistry and biochemistry or organic chemistry)
      • 12 semester hours biology (general biology and molecular biology, cell biology, or genetics)
      • 24 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory science or technology

License/Certification

  • MLT: Certification from a nationally recognized agency must be obtained within 18 months of hire and maintained in good standing.
  • MLS: Certification from a nationally recognized agency must be obtained within 18 months of hire and maintained in good standing.

Experience

  • MLT: Minimum 6 months documented bench experience in blood bank, microbiology, chemistry, and hematology.
  • MLS: Minimum 1 year approved clinical laboratory experience including clinical rotations in blood bank, microbiology, chemistry, and hematology.

Required Years of Experience: 1 year (MLS requirement is higher and takes precedence)


Additional Information

  • Orientation occurs every 2 weeks.
  • COVID & Flu vaccination exemptions may be accepted after submission of a declination form.
  • Housing application must be submitted 2 weeks prior to start.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.

  • The laboratory provides 24-hour coverage with rotating shifts (day, evening, night), weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.
