Diagnostic Imaging Technologist (Contract)

Location: Rockford, Illinois
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Education & Experience

• Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology
• Minimum of 2 years of experience required

Certification/Licensure

• ARRT Radiography registration required
• IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required for Illinois
• Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic radiographic, portable, C-arm, and fluoroscopic procedures
• Review patient clinical history to ensure appropriate orders and labs, consulting radiologist as needed
• Provide patient education
• Select and operate imaging equipment and accessories to perform procedures successfully
• Position patients to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest while respecting patient comfort and ability
• Initiate basic life support when necessary
• Determine radiographic technique and exposure factors following ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure
• Apply radiation protection principles to protect patients, self, and others
• Report and document safety incidents or adverse events according to protocol
• Process images and review for proper identification and quality control
• Use radiology information systems (including PACS) to complete records, submit images, and assist with medical record/image sharing
• Document all pertinent information in the electronic medical record, including medication reconciliation
• Provide practical instruction for radiography students and partners
• Apply patient safety principles during procedures, including assisting and transporting patients
• Operate mobile radiologic equipment in operating room, emergency room, or at patient bedside
• Assist radiologist in fluoroscopic and special x-ray examinations
• Prepare contrast media and assist in administration
• Provide instruction and expert training to new technologists
• Adjust and coordinate patient and staff schedules as needed
• Demonstrate expert-level knowledge of electronic medical records, PACS, and imaging equipment
