Job Opportunity: Surgical Technologist

Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist functions as the scrub person in the operating room, working under the supervision of the surgeon and the R.N. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe O.R. environment, proper equipment function, and conducting operative procedures that maximize patient safety. Expertise in surgical techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the use of tools and technologies for safe patient care during invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures is required.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military surgical technologist program
• American Heart Association BLS certification
• Certified Surgical Technologist

Essential Job Functions

• Assure completion of case carts according to preference cards
• Recognize and interpret preference cards for procuring instruments and supplies
• Communicate clearly with operating room and sterile processing staff to coordinate instrumentation for scheduled and unscheduled cases
• Review daily schedule with charge nurse and sterile processing coordinator to identify potential turnover delays and scheduling issues
• Manage core phone and communications, delegate duties, and coordinate breaks and lunches
• Serve as a resource for SPD and Surgical Services departments for procurement of supplies and instrumentation
• Coordinate with materials management regarding supply utilization and deployment

Additional Information

• Facility may cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract due to low census or unforeseen circumstances
• Candidates must live at least 90 miles away from the facility to be considered
