Travel RN - Pediatric ICU (PICU)

Location: Springfield, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Pediatric ICU (PICU)
  • Shift: Days, 3x12 hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
  • Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed
  • Number of Openings: 1
  • Weekend Hours: As required by facility
  • Call Requirements: No call unless sent home during shift due to low census; must be available until end of scheduled shift for possible admits

Licensure & Certifications

  • Required Licensure: Current RN license eligible or licensed in Missouri
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) from AHA only
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or PCAR (Pediatric Care After Resuscitation)
  • Preferred Certification: ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year PICU experience post-orientation
  • Competencies: Must be ventilator competent and have NICU capability (resume must reflect this)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Unit & Patient Information

  • Unit: Pediatric ICU with 12 beds
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Vented/critical patients: 1:1
    • ICU status: 2:1
    • Floor status: 3:1
    • Ratios determined by patient acuity and not guaranteed
  • Float Requirements: Nurses may float to NICU, PICU, Pediatric medical floor, or Pediatric ED based on patient volume
  • Patient Types: Respiratory, Surgical, Trauma/Burn, Neurosurgical, Sepsis, Hematology/Oncology, Endocrinology

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Stand and walk most of the time on duty
  • Lift and push patients on stretchers and wheelchairs
  • Work in a clean, air-conditioned area
  • Physical demands include pushing, pulling, gripping up to 50 lbs., pinching up to 15 lbs., minimal kneeling, crouching, and crawling

Additional Information

  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for all travelers from November 1 to April 1; declinations not accepted
  • Utilizes nursing process for patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Coordinates care with ancillary departments
  • Maintains patient rights and confidentiality
  • Adheres to Missouri Nurse Practice Act and facility standards
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise and strong communication skills required
  • Dress code: Black scrubs with option for pediatric-appropriate t-shirt; other attire not acceptable
