Travel RN Opportunity - Emergency Department

Location: Salem, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Department: Emergency Department
• Number of Beds: 27
• Staff: 50 RNs, 25 Medics
• Shifts:

  • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 RNs, 2-3 medics; additional 4-5 RNs at 11am; additional 1-2 RNs at 3pm
  • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 RNs, 2-3 medics
• Patient Ratios: 4-6 patients per nurse
• EMR System: Meditech

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Emergency Department (ED) experience: minimum 2 years, including experience within the last year
• Completion of 2-3 prior travel assignments
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Required Certifications:

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • PALS

Typical Procedures Performed

• Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI)
• Sepsis interventions
• Stroke protocol including tPA administration
• Central line placement
• Care of psychiatric patients
• Transfers to other facilities (EMTALA)

Work Environment & Culture

• Fast-paced, high acuity ER with high patient volume
• Patient ratios typically around 5:1 preferred
• Personality fit: Relaxed, easy-going, friendly, team-oriented, respectful
• Dress Code: Navy blue or white scrubs
• Floating: None
• Scheduling:

  • No on-call required
  • Four weekend shifts per four-week period (Friday or Saturday nights; Saturday or Sunday days)

This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses with prior travel assignments looking to work in a dynamic, high-volume emergency department.
