Registered Nurse (Med Surg)

Location: Birmingham, Alabama
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical / Acute Care – Orthopedics, Neurology, General Surgery
• Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Nights
• Weekly Hours: 36 hours guaranteed
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Call: No call required
• Float: Occasionally to like units within scope, including nearby facilities within 25 miles
• Patient Ratio: 5-6 patients per nurse
• Unit Beds: 42
• EMR System: EPIC
• Equipment: Alaris infusion pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing system

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alabama
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Post-operative assessments
• Pain management
• Wound and drain care

Patient Population

• Post-operative surgery patients
• Medical overflow patients

• Dress code: Navy scrubs required; fleece not allowed

• No prior travel experience explicitly required
• Occasional floating to similar units within the hospital system
