Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatric Cardiac ICU (PICU) Travel Position

Location

  • Denver, Colorado

Unit Information

  • Pediatric Cardiac ICU with 10 beds
  • Staffed by approximately 6 RNs partnering with the PICU team
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2 for critical care patients
  • Equipment includes Phillips monitors, Medfusion and Baxter infusion pumps
  • Electronic Medical Record system: Meditech
  • Schedule: 36 hours per week, typically 4 shifts per 4-week schedule (weekends included)
  • Shift times: Primarily 7 PM to 7 AM

Patient Population & Care

  • Care for congenital cardiac patients including post-operative care for sternotomy/open chest
  • Management of inotropic and vasopressor continuous infusions, intravenous fluids, chest tubes
  • Moderate sedation procedures performed
  • Unit serves as the hospital’s ECMO center for medical neonates and cardiac patients
  • Advanced equipment used: CentriMag, PrisMax, Arctic Sun

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado
  • Minimum 2 years of cardiovascular pediatric intensive care unit (CVPICU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • De-escalation skills in a healthcare setting

Preferred Skills (Not mandatory but highly valued)

  • Experience with peritoneal dialysis and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)
  • ECMO bedside experience

Personality & Work Style

  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Strong communication skills
  • Organized and enjoys teaching and resourcing others

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
