Registered Nurse - Med Surg (Travel)
Location
- Nashville, Tennessee
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- 36 hours per week
- Scheduling requires 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week block
Unit Details
- Medical/Surgical unit with 36 beds
- Patient ratios: 1:4 or 1:5
- Unit staffing includes a secretary daily and PRN techs
- Equipment used: PD Cyclers, Welch Allyn VS Carts, Hoyer Lift, Broda Chairs, Alaris IV Pumps
- Documentation system: Meditech
- Floating policy: Will float over core staff
Patient Population & Care
- Care includes patients with wounds, tracheostomy, ostomy, drains, chest tubes, strokes, seizures
- Some patients may require dialysis or PCA pumps; only Heparin drips used
- Post-operative care includes amputations, ostomy, drains, chest tubes, oral surgeries, and wound vacs
- Patient experience expectations: bedside shift report, safety checks every 1-2 hours, focus on communication and responsiveness
Unit Policies & Guidelines
- Infection prevention: CVC and Foley monitoring with standard precautions
- Fall prevention protocols
- 100% medication scanning, including controlled substances
- Attendance policy enforced

Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Tennessee
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience caring for patients who may require dialysis
- Experience caring for patients with PCA pumps
- BLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
