Job Opportunity: RRT-NICU (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Patient Age Group: Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults
- Specialty: Respiratory Therapist with NICU experience
- Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years in NICU, pediatric critical care, pediatrics, and emergency department (ED)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required (First-timer OK)
- Weekend Requirement: Yes, 6 weekend shifts per schedule (schedule published in 6-week blocks)
- On-Call Requirement: Not applicable
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NC RRT licensure (must have or be able to obtain within 2-4 weeks)
Required Skills and Experience
- Level IV NICU experience (hard stop requirement)
- Experience with high-frequency jet ventilator and oscillating ventilator
- Experience with pediatric cardiac anomalies
Orientation and Training
- Orientation sessions held bi-weekly
- Flu vaccination required (no exemptions or declinations accepted)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including SSN trace, county checks, nationwide, sex offender, international (if applicable), education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC sanctions list search
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Flu vaccine (seasonal)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella vaccines or positive titers (no exemptions)
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella vaccine or positive titer
- Polio vaccine or attestation
- Two professional references from employment within 12 months (at least one supervisor)
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Employment application with 7 years of work history
Additional Notes
- Local candidates within 75 miles considered
- Candidate must set up a Duke Guest Account prior to clearance
- Competency exams and unit-specific training required
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training provided during orientation (valid for 2 years)
- Candidate must comply with facility-specific onboarding and documentation deadlines
