Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (PACU)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule

  • Day/Evening shifts, Monday - Friday
  • 8 or 10 hour shifts between 0700-2000 and 0500-2030

Job Description

  • Provide care in Preoperative and Phase II Postoperative areas within the Universal Care Center (UCC) and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • Responsibilities include prepping patients for surgery, assisting with recovery from anesthesia, pain management, discharge teaching, and immediate post-anesthetic care
  • May float to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
  • PACU/Recovery room experience required
  • Experience with pre-op and phase II post-op RN assistance required
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience required for Telemetry; must pass Telemetry test prior to start
  • Epic electronic health record experience required, preferably within the last 12 months

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Wisconsin nursing license or compact license from permanent address state
  • BLS & ACLS certification through American Heart Association only
  • Telemetry test pass required before starting

Facility Requirements

  • Permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site
  • Floating is expected; traveler may be assigned to different units or locations as needed

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including multi-location search for past 7 years
  • Education verification as applicable
  • State-specific caregiver screening (Wisconsin) within 90 days of start
  • Drug screening per Vaya standard
  • Physical exam (per Vaya standard)
  • Immunizations and health documents including:
    • TB test or chest X-ray
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) with medical or religious exemptions accepted
    • Varicella vaccination or titer with exemptions accepted
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination form
    • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
    • Meningococcal vaccine or declination (if applicable)

Testing & Competency Exams

  • Telemetry testing (Adult and Pediatric as applicable) required prior to start and annually
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication knowledge required
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment
  • Rhythm interpretation remediation course required if second telemetry test attempt is failed
