Travel Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU/PCU/MS Float
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Float position covering ICU, PCU, and Medical-Surgical (MS) units.
- Must be comfortable working all three specialties.
- Staffing ratios: ICU 2:1, PCU 5:1, MS 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1).
- Floating may occur 2-3 times per shift (every 4 hours).
- Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM), with option for 4x12 shifts.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block.
- Holiday requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract.
- EPIC charting experience required.
- Accepts first-time travelers and local candidates.
Required Qualifications
Licensure
- Active Virginia State RN license or Compact RN license required.
- Pending license accepted only if single-state non-compact license held.
Certifications
- ACLS (American Heart Association only)
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Experience
- Minimum 2 years ICU experience at a Level 1 or Level 2 trauma facility.
- Experience with patient ratios of at least 1:5.
Clinical Skills
- IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line and Central Line management, arterial line management, blood product administration.
- Trach management and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, ventilator management).
- Chest tube care (Emerson/PleurEvac).
- Cardiac monitoring, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips.
Additional Requirements
- Must provide 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted).
- Complete application/resume required.
- Annual skills checklist update required.
Health & Background Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually.
- Background check covering 7 years of history required within 1 year of start.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals.
Scheduling & Policies
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.
- All scheduling requests (RTO, block, special) must be submitted upfront.
Prior Travel Experience
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers accepted.
