License Requirements

• Massachusetts RN license required

Certifications (may be required or preferred depending on unit)

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only
• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – for ER, NICU, PICU, OR, PACU, Pediatrics
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – for L&D, NICU, Nursery, Mother/Baby
• NALS (Neonatal Advanced Life Support)
• CHEMO (Chemotherapy) – preferred for Oncology
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – preferred for ER
• EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – AWHONN Intermediate may be required for L&D
• ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
• Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
• NIH Stroke Certification
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – may be required or completed onsite
• Medication and Telemetry Exams (Pass/Fail Testing) – required for all RNs; Telemetry exam required for units with telemetry monitoring

Experience

• 3 years of specialty experience required (acute care case management)
• No explicit mention of prior travel experience required

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start (annual update required)
• Massachusetts Statewide iCORI clearance within 30 days prior to start
• Education verification of highest completed education (transcript acceptable if verification not possible)
• NURSYS verification within 30 days prior to start
• Drug testing within 30 days of start (specific drug panels required)
• References: 2 references within 3 years of start
• Employment application covering 7 years of employment with explanations for gaps over 30 days
• Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months of start, including physician statement of fitness without restrictions
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2 PPDs or QuantiFERON/T-Spot within 90 days)
• TB questionnaire required for all candidates
• Immunizations or valid declinations required for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (declinations not accepted for Pediatrics, NICU, Maternity)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – positive titer, vaccines, or declination (declinations not accepted for Pediatrics, Maternity, NICU)
  • Hepatitis B – 3 dose series, reactive titer, or declination (declinations valid for 1 year)
  • Varicella – positive titer, vaccines, provider-documented history, or declination
  • Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
  • COVID-19 vaccination (most recent) or facility-specific declination
• Drug testing panel includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methaqualone, opiates, phencyclidine, methadone, propoxyphene, fentanyl, oxycodone

• Valid government-issued ID required
• Various background checks including EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG if separate from BGC
• Some certifications and exams may be unit-specific; verify based on assignment
• Compliance with facility-specific declinations and documentation policies is mandatory
