Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a patient population ranging from adolescents to geriatrics. The role involves caring for mixed medical-surgical/telemetry and intermediate patients, including neuro, respiratory, cardiac, and titrating cardiac drips. Assignments may vary between PCU and MS/Tele units depending on patient acuity and staffing.


Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in the specialty (Registered Nurse)
  • 1st time travelers accepted
  • Prior travel experience: Not required

Work Environment & Schedule

  • No block scheduling
  • Patient ratio approximately 1:4-5 (high staffing ratio)
  • Floating within facility/scope of practice as needed
  • Every other weekend work required unless otherwise specified
  • Call: None
  • Holiday work expectations:
    • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it
    • If 2 major holidays fall, expected to work both
    • If 3 major holidays fall, expected to work 2 of them
  • Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
  • Return to Orientation (RTO) maximum 7 days, with blackout dates during Spring Break (April 4-12)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (if required by unit)

Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for the state of Georgia

Skills & Competencies

  • Experience with Epic, Pyxis, SBAR systems
  • Ability to manage telemetry and cardiac drips
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for telemetry and PCU
  • Color Blind Testing required

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check completed within 30 days prior to start
  • Education verification of nursing degree required (can be pending with proof of processing)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (with additional requirements if prior positive)
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer or signed declination)
    • Flu vaccine or declination (seasonal)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
  • Annual NURSYS license verification
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
  • Work history verification of most recent employer (can be pending with proof)
  • Two clinical references required

Additional Information

  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week pushback due to orientation scheduling
  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • Floating within the facility as needed
