Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Description

14-bed overflow med/surg telemetry unit for ED boarder patients
Flex space inside GI Endoscopy area; patient census may fluctuate based on demand
Weekend coverage every other weekend (EOW)
Float required
Open to block scheduling but not guaranteed
Locals accepted only if within 75 miles
Minimal Return to Origin (RTO) restrictions
EPIC experience required
Unit accepts first-time travelers
Previous charge nurse experience preferred

Required Certifications & Skills

BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as required by unit
PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit
Competency exams and medication/pharmacology testing as required
Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
State License primary source verification within 30 days of start
NURSYS verification within 30 days of start

Skills:

Med/Surg Telemetry nursing
IV placement competency (PICC team involvement)
Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
Peripheral line care and management
Oxygen administration (nasal cannula, oxygen tanks)
Non-invasive airway management
Isolation precautions

Experience Requirements

Minimum 1 year of specialty experience (Registered Nurse)
Previous charge nurse experience preferred
Prior travel experience: Not required

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:

Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
Fit mask test (annual)
Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
TB questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test)
Immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
Drug screening within 30 days of start
Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background & Documentation Requirements

Government-issued photo ID required
7-year criminal background check (felony checks) within 3 months of start
EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
Education verification from primary source (no hard copies accepted)
Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
Transcript/diploma if no education verification on file
Employment application and work history verification required
References required for Aya candidates only (2 references within 3 years)
Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations

NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable) within 3 months of start

This position offers a dynamic med/surg telemetry experience in a flexible overflow unit with opportunities for first-time travel nurses. Prior charge experience is a plus but not mandatory. The role requires strong clinical skills in telemetry nursing and IV management, with a focus on patient safety and rapid response.
