Job Details

  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years
  • First-time travelers accepted: Yes
  • Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Friday, Saturday, Sunday combination)
  • Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
  • Floating: May be required between departments, units, and facilities
  • On-call: Not required
  • Block schedule accommodation: Not available
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending license accepted: Yes
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, if applicable
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA or AAP, if applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course), if applicable
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring), if applicable
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior), if applicable
  • IV Certification (for LPN/LVN if applicable)
  • State License Verification (Primary Source Verification required)
  • NURSYS Verification (for Missouri licenses)

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Medical/Surgical Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Telemetry monitoring on unit
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Post Cardiac Angiogram, Post MI, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath and Surgery care
  • IV insulin protocols
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Pre/Post Hemodialysis management and renal failure care
  • Accessing ports, blood product administration
  • Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management
  • Starting IVs, Heparin protocols
  • Management of cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration)
  • PCA, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
  • External CPAP/BIPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
  • Interpretation of ABGs
  • Oxygen delivery devices (nasal cannula, face masks)
  • Tracheostomy management
  • Isolation precautions
  • Wound care and wound vac management

Compliance and Background Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree (no pending at start)
  • Fingerprinting required for Illinois long-term care or rehab units (not required for Missouri)
  • State-specific searches and registries as applicable (Missouri and Illinois)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) annually required
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap (or Td for renewals)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (2-step PPD or equivalent)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
    • Hepatitis B declination required (not mandatory vaccine)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)

  • Fingernail Policy adherence required
  • Dress Code Policy review and signature prior to start
  • Healthstream modules (Epic, Glucose Meter, Infusion Pump) to be completed prior to start
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
