Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: ICU Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), no block scheduling
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
- Floating: Mandatory float facility; ICU RNs float between Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU, and may float to Med Surg units as needed
- Orientation: First week on day shift for orientation and precepting
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Minimum 2 years recent acute care ICU experience
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (required annually for ICU and related specialties)
Location & Housing
- Locals accepted, preference for candidates living within 75 miles of the facility
- Pending licenses are not accepted

Required Documentation & Compliance
Background Checks
- Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- International background check if lived/worked internationally in past 7 years
- Illinois Health Care Worker Registry search required for aides and nursing assistants (not required for RNs)
Certifications
- ACLS and BLS (AHA only)
- NIH Stroke Certification (annual renewal required)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS for ER, NRP for L&D/NICU)
Health Documents
- Physical exam within 12 months, updated annually
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, updated annually
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required as of 8/21/2025
Competency Exams (for starts on/after specified dates)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
- Color blind testing
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (preferred for ER RNs)
Facility-Specific Documents
- Completion of facility-specific HIS forms required for RNs and other roles, with legal name and signatures
Additional Notes
- Floating is mandatory within ICU and possibly to Med Surg units
- Orientation week is day shift only
- Must comply with all health and background check requirements prior to start
- References are recommended but not required to start
This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level 1 Trauma Center ICU environment with a structured schedule and guaranteed hours, ideal for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with floating and working night shifts.
