Position Details

Unit & Patient Care

  • Unit: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
  • Patient Ratios: Average 1:2
  • Special Requirements:
    • Experience in cardiac critical care preferred
    • CRRT and ECMO certifications preferred

Certifications Required

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) recommended
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., NRP for NICU, TNCC for ER)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (85% passing score) within 12 months
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ICU and telemetry units

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (clean shaven required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination highly preferred for pediatric specialties
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID vaccination preferred

    • Stroke Education (not required for PICU)
    • CLABSI Prevention
    • Preventing Pressure Injury
    • Language Services
    • CAUTI Education (not required for PICU)
    • Patient Transportation with Oxygen
    • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment
    • Pyxis ES MedStation
    • Baxter Pump Interoperability
    • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER)
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
    • Blood Administration (annual update required)
    • New Employee Orientation
    • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
    • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
    • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
    • Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap >6 months or updated module)

Work History & Documentation

  • 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days required
  • Verification of employment for last 7 years required
  • Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain tech and specialty roles

Notes

  • Floating assignments require working within scope of practice
  • Pending license candidates require approval for RTO (return to office) greater than 7 days
  • Multiple attestations and training modules must be completed and signed, often via electronic signature
