Job Opportunity: Physical Therapist - Acute Care (Travel/Contract)

Location: Providence, Rhode Island

Job Description

  • Position: Physical Therapist (PT) - Acute Care
  • Shift: 5 days a week, 8-hour day shifts (08:00 AM - 05:00 PM)
  • Weekend Rotation: All staff rotate weekends; optimal schedule is Tuesday - Saturday with some flexibility
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year of acute care experience
  • Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
  • Caseload: Acute care only (no outpatient)
  • Units: Not assigned to a specific unit; cases vary across ortho, ICU, ED, medical, surgical, etc.
  • Team: 3 full-time PTs, 2 full-time PTAs; full-time lead PT available onsite for training and assistance
  • Float: Required

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Rhode Island State License
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - required for ER and RRT candidates
  • Other certifications as applicable (PALS, NRP, TNCC)

Skills & Procedures

  • Patient assessment, evaluation, discharge planning, and reassessments
  • Use of gait belts, rolling walkers, sit-to-stand lifts, sliding boards, soft/hard collars, standard walkers
  • Extremity mobilization and gait training
  • Experience with hip fractures, knee injuries/tendinopathy, post-op cervical, shoulder, spinal surgeries
  • Total hip and knee replacement care
  • Lifting and transfer techniques

Patient Diagnoses & Care Areas

  • Orthopedic injuries
  • ICU and Emergency Department patients
  • Medical and surgical cases

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Emergency Contact Form
  • Background checks including SSN trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender check
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (must be completed within 30 days of start and annually)
  • Fingerprinting (required for RN’s in Rhode Island; not required for Allied Health)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination/titer/declination
    • Varicella vaccination or proof of disease
  • Drug screening (9-panel) after position acceptance
  • Seasonal vaccinations:
    • Influenza vaccine or declination (mask required if declined) during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
    • COVID-19 full vaccine series and annual booster (exemptions require approval and testing twice weekly)
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance (required annually)

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of confidentiality agreement, technology access agreement, and orientation packet prior to start
  • COVID-19 medical or religious exemption forms require approval through HR
  • Flu vaccine declination requires approval and mask-wearing
  • Agency badge photo attestation for subcontractors

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers with some acute care experience are accepted
  • Flexibility in scheduling and honoring time off requests within contract period
  • References: 2 professional references required for travel/allied/per diem acute care roles
