Registered Nurse - PCU (Travel/Contract)
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 - 7:15)
- Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5; may occasionally flex to 1:6
- Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
- Floating: Regular floating within scope to other departments, units, or facilities as needed
- Charge RN and holiday shifts may be assigned as needed
- Local candidates not accepted; home address must be at least 50 miles from facility
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license) required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, sex offender registry, and international searches if applicable
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree (no pending education verification allowed at start)
- Primary source verification of Missouri RN license via NURSYS
- Unit-specific competency exams including:
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (minimum 80% pass rate)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam
- Unit-specific skills checklist (updated within 1 year)
- Color blindness testing within 12 months of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Drug screening within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
- Annual fit mask (N95) testing required
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
- Measles, mumps, rubella, varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept-April)
- Facility-specific documents to be completed prior to start:
- HIPAA acknowledgement
- Latex allergy questionnaire
- Confidentiality form
- Regulatory compliance education and quiz (annual)
- Hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies acknowledgment
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- Employment application and two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
