Job Summary

• Provide routine and emergency healthcare to patients in a correctional detention center.
• Conduct health assessments, triage new patients, and make referrals to providers including detoxification, dental, and mental health professionals.
• Perform detox rounds per protocol.
• Work schedule includes 36 hours per week with every other weekend required.
• Open to block scheduling.
• No local candidates accepted within 100-mile radius.
• Pending license candidates accepted.
• Must pass facility background check.
• COVID vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with proper documentation.
• Facility capacity approximately 1900 inmates; average daily population around 1640.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New Mexico
• Minimum 1 year of correctional nursing experience, with correctional experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Phlebotomy
• Starting IVs
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
• Non-invasive airway management
• Portable oxygen tank
• Isolation precautions

Additional Requirements

• Valid non-local driver’s license required (identification cards not accepted).
• Must complete a 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start.
• Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless completed within past 12 months).
• Negative drug screen within 30 days of start.
• Physical exam within 1 year prior to start.
• Fit mask test required within 1 year prior to start (specific N95 masks accepted).
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
• Required immunizations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B.
• Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted.
• COVID vaccination required with exemptions accepted.
• Must complete PREA training prior to start.
• Must complete Cerner training attestation or test out onsite.
• Must complete Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam with passing scores.
• Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exams.
• Must complete emergency contact and compliance forms.

Work Conditions & Notes

• Facility is a detention center with a large inmate population.
• Charting system used: Cerner.
• Parking available at no cost.
• New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks.
• A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative work at the facility.
• Overtime applies after 48 hours worked.
• Facility may call off up to 3 shifts during a 13-week assignment.
• Candidates must be able to pass a background check and fingerprinting.
• No public transportation nearby; candidates must have reliable transportation.
