Registered Nurse - Stepdown Critical Care
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- Stepdown Critical Care (SDCC) is a 12-bed unit providing care for patients needing a level of care between intensive care and progressive care units.
- Patient population includes trauma, surgery, transplants, lung disorders, and ventilated patients.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:3-4 on days and nights.
- Collaboration with Critical Care Intensivist and nursing staff to ensure patient safety.
- Drip infusions required on all floors.
- EPIC charting experience required.
- Floating is mandatory; travelers must be prepared to float frequently to meet staffing needs, including to other units and potentially another campus.
Schedule & Work Requirements
- 36 or 48-hour shift options available.
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri night/Sat night).
- RTO (Request Time Off) blackout dates due to College World Series: 6/11/26 - 6/22/26.
- Up to two weeks of RTO permitted, must be submitted with application.
- Holiday requirement: Travelers must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in a large, urban hospital. First-time travelers not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
- Certifications:
- Active AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- CCRN and NIH Stroke Certification strongly preferred
- Licensure: Active RN license for Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start; booking may be delayed if not).
- Skills: Experience with drips and EPIC electronic medical records required.
- Must be willing and able to float within scope to various units as needed.
- Must be nicotine-free (facility is 100% nicotine free).
- Locals not accepted; candidate must live more than 100 miles from the facility.
Additional Information
- Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs (facility branded) required.
- Parking: Permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply.
- Background checks, drug screening, and various health documents (vaccinations, TB testing, physical exam, fit mask test) required prior to start and/or updated annually.
- Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required.
- References: Two work references from the past 2 years required.
- Annual skills checklist and other competency exams required.
