Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float Nurse

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work evening/night shifts (8 or 12 hours), 1900-07:30, with every other weekend and holiday rotation required.
  • Must be experienced in multiple ICU units including Neuro ICU, Cardiothoracic, Burn ICU, Trauma Surgery, etc.
  • ICU experience with adult populations is required.
  • Flexibility to work with IMC/Progressive/General care populations as needed.
  • Experience in an academic Level 1 Trauma center is required.
  • Must have completed at least one 13-week travel assignment successfully.
  • Minimum of 2 years acute care experience within the last 3 years.
  • Epic electronic health record experience required, preferably within the last 12 months.
  • Basic arrhythmia experience required; must pass a Telemetry test prior to start.
  • Floating is expected; may be assigned to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Wisconsin nursing license or a compact nursing license from permanent address state.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications issued by the American Heart Association only.
  • Basic arrhythmia knowledge and successful completion of Telemetry testing before starting.
  • Must have completed at least one prior travel contract (13 weeks).
  • Acute care experience: minimum 2 years within the last 3 years.
  • Epic experience preferred within the last 12 months.

Additional Requirements

  • Permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site.
  • Must be willing to float to different units as needed.
  • Must participate in holiday rotations.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including criminal history and caregiver screening per Wisconsin state mandates.
  • Education verification and licensure primary source verification required.
  • Required immunizations and health screenings including:
    • TB testing and questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or exemption
    • Varicella vaccination or exemption
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination form
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (medical or religious)
  • Drug screening per standard clinical requirements.
  • Telemetry testing and competency exams must be completed and passed prior to start.
  • Physical exam documentation per agency standards.

References and History

  • Two clinical references within the last 3 years required.
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required.

Notes for Candidates

  • High flexibility and adaptability required due to floating and multiple unit assignments.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, academic Level 1 Trauma center environment.
  • Telemetry competency and arrhythmia knowledge are critical for this role.
