Step Down Unit Registered Nurse

Role

Travel Registered Nurse for the Step Down Unit.

Location

Evansville, Indiana
Primary location: Midtown
No local candidates within a 40-mile radius

Schedule

12-hour nights, 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM
Guaranteed 36 hours per week
Accepts 48-hour contracts upon request
Three weekends out of every six-week schedule
Every other holiday

Contract Length

13 weeks

Float Scope

First to float within skillset
May float to Deaconess Newburgh campus and potentially to Deaconess Henderson
Cross-campus float notice: 2 hours
Mid-shift float within the same campus is possible

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Indiana
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Stepdown (1 year of experience)
Stepdown experience within the last year
One completed travel assignment
BLS issued by American Heart Association
ACLS issued by American Heart Association
NIHSS
Trauma level II experience
Telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation
Post-heart catheterization care including femoral and transradial band management
Initiation and titration of cardiac drips (cardizem, amiodarone, cardene, nitroprusside, insulin, heparin)
Sepsis care
Chest tube management
CPAP and Optiflow experience
Experience with Epic

Unit Details

22-bed unit
Typical ratio: Days 1:3-4; Nights 1:3-4

Clinical Experience / Skills

Cardiac post-procedure care, including cath/stents/interventions and pacers
Arrhythmias
CVA
Detox/CIWA
Sepsis
DKA
Respiratory distress
Feeding tubes
Tele/12-lead EKG interpretation
Post heart cath care, including femoral and TR bands
Initiating and titrating drips: cardizem, amio, cardene, nitro, insulin, heparin
NIHSS, dysphagia screening, and strong neuro assessments
Sepsis care
Chest tubes
CPAP/Optiflow
PIV insertion

Additional Notes

Clinical interview required
Bi-weekly orientation
Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
Navy blue scrubs
No competing health systems or agency logos
3 call-ins can result in termination
COVID-19 vaccine not required
