Job Opportunity: RN - Electrophysiology

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel Nursing (Clinical Nursing)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

The RN in the Electrophysiology (EP) Lab assists with all procedures performed in the EP lab, including the use of EP monitoring/stimulation systems, Intracardiac Echo, and 3D mapping systems. Responsibilities include assisting physicians with the implantation of Permanent Pacemakers, ICDs, and Bi-V-ICDs, maintaining sterile technique, and operating/troubleshooting X-ray systems. The role requires a strong understanding of cardiac arrhythmias, invasive EP procedures, and patient care during these procedures.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with Cath and EP lab studies and procedures following safety and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Monitor radiation exposure for patients, staff, and physicians, maintaining levels as low as reasonably achievable.
  • Use appropriate sterile technique during all EP lab procedures.
  • Administer medications, defibrillation, or other treatments as ordered and within scope of practice.
  • Educate patients about procedures and ensure their comfort and cooperation.
  • Accurately enter patient demographics and data into monitoring and X-ray equipment.
  • Assist with room stocking and inventory maintenance.
  • Respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Maintain professional behavior and adhere to safety standards and policies.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate from an accredited school or college of nursing.
  • BSN preferred or required within five years of hire date (depending on transfer status).

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience in high acuity critical care, emergency department, or Cath Lab preferred.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse license in South Carolina or a current compact/multi-state RN license from a recognized NCSBN Compact State.
  • New graduate RNs with temporary work authorization must obtain full RN licensure within 90 days of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider and ACLS certifications required and must be maintained.
  • RCIS or RCES credential preferred.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of cardiac arrhythmias and invasive EP procedures.
  • Competence in the use of EP lab equipment and supplies.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to provide and evaluate patient care.
  • Ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and apply critical thinking.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, physicians, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to maintain composure and act efficiently in emergency situations.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality improvement.

Additional Information

  • Must respect patient confidentiality and demonstrate empathy to reduce patient apprehension during invasive procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.

This position does not require prior travel experience.
