Monitor Tech - Tele (Travel Position)

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: Central Monitoring Unit (CMU)
  • Average Patients Monitored Daily: 336
  • Staffing: 65 total staff
    • Day Shift: 12 telemetry competent staff
    • Night Shift: 12 telemetry competent staff
  • Patient Ratio: 40+ patients per monitor tech
  • Equipment: GE Carescape
  • EMR System: Cerner Patient Observer (for Virtual Sitter role)

Job Description

  • Monitor cardiac rhythms for a high volume of patients across 7 different hospitals remotely
  • Analyze and interpret heart rhythms
  • Build end-of-shift reports within GE Carescape system
  • Add and discharge patients from GE Carescape system
  • Communicate with floor staff via desktop phone and iPhone application
  • Maintain a running call log
  • Multi-task effectively in a high-stress environment
  • Cross-training provided for Virtual Sitter Attendant role

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Monitor Tech (highest required years of experience)
  • Prior travel experience working in remote monitoring required
  • Telemetry competent
  • Ability to pass a basic cardiac rhythm test
  • Ability to analyze and interpret heart rhythms
  • Good attendance record
  • Proficient English reading and writing skills
  • Proficient typing and basic computer skills
  • Basic knowledge of iPhone operation
  • Ability to monitor a high volume of patients and remain calm under stress

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

  • CNA background
  • Cardiac nursing background
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • ECG Board Certification
  • Previous experience with GE monitoring systems

Work Schedule & Environment

  • 12-hour shifts:
    • Day Shift: 06:45 - 19:15 (unit huddle at 06:53)
    • Night Shift: 18:45 - 07:15 (unit huddle at 18:53)
  • 6 weekend shifts and 2 on-call shifts every 6 weeks
  • No cafeteria on site; staff must bring food or order from nearby restaurants
  • Position involves prolonged sitting; desks have sit-to-stand capability
  • Business casual dress code; no denim; scrubs of any color allowed
