IR RN Manager

Location: Bronx, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Overview

  • Manage Interventional Radiology (IR) unit with 1 IR room and access to Cath Lab for vascular procedures.
  • Oversee a team of 7 RNs, coordinating patient care and staffing.
  • Responsible for patient management during all phases of IR procedures (pre, intra, post).
  • Perform IV insertions and CT preparations for scheduled patients.
  • Communicate with physicians and mid-level providers regarding patient care plans and changes.
  • Coordinate scheduling and calendar management as charge nurse.
  • May assist with patient care as needed.

Patient Care & Procedures

  • Average 5-8 IR procedures per day.
  • CT prep and IV starts for about 50 patients daily.
  • Procedures include biopsies (breast, thyroid needle aspiration), vascular interventions (embolizations, thrombectomies), drains (abscesses, pleural effusions), pain management injections, and line management (Permcaths, PICCs, ports).
  • Patient monitoring includes sedation cases and pacemaker patients.
  • Documentation completed electronically via Allscripts EMR and paper charts depending on procedure.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Interventional Radiology nursing experience within the last year
  • Experience in Manager roles
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • ACLS
  • PALS

Work Environment & Scheduling

  • 12-hour shifts starting at 7:00 AM or 7:00 PM with 1-hour lunch and two 15-minute breaks.
  • Flexible scheduling; travelers should be prepared to fill gaps in permanent staffing.
  • No call responsibilities on weeknights, weekends, or holidays; permanent staff cover these times.
  • No floating outside IR and Cath Lab for IR-specific cases.
  • Scrub color: Royal Blue; surgical or disposable scrubs allowed in Cath Lab.

Orientation & Training

  • Unit-specific orientation includes 3 shifts with manager evaluation for additional support.
  • Training on electronic and paper documentation based on procedure type.

Additional Notes

  • IR Chair and another MD are in-house during the day; on-call after 5 PM.
  • IR techs and CSTs assist during procedures.
  • Emphasis on teamwork and communication within the IR and Radiology departments.
