Job Opportunity: OR RN in North Dakota (Devils Lake)

Position Details

• Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
• Location: Devils Lake, North Dakota
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
• Call Requirements:

  • 1 in 3 on-call after hours during the week
  • 1-2 weeknight calls required
  • Every 3rd weekend on call
  • Rotating holiday call coverage (6 recognized holidays)
  • Call response time: 20 minutes (respond ASAP)
• Scheduling: Block scheduling
• Floating: When no surgical cases, float to admission/discharge side of surgery to assist with outpatient IV therapy, wound dressing changes, and blood product transfusions

Clinical Environment

• OR Suites: 1 endoscopy suite, 2 operating rooms
• Average Cases per Day:

  • 5 endoscopy cases (Monday-Friday)
  • 9 cataract surgeries every other Wednesday
  • Approximately 3 scheduled C-sections per month
  • 1-2 podiatry cases every Monday
• Common Procedures: Endoscopy, C-sections, D&Cs, cataract extractions, podiatry, resterilization of surgical instruments
• Team:

  • 1 CST (Certified Surgical Technologist)
  • RNs cross-trained to scrub, resterilize, and perform OR tech roles
  • OR supervisor and 24/7 house nurse coordinator on shift
  • Charge nurse shares workload with scheduled staff

Requirements & Preferences

• Years of Experience: 2 years preferred but not required
• Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required
• Scrubbing: Willingness to learn to scrub preferred but not required
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS required; PALS preferred
• Orientation: 1-2 weeks unit/department specific orientation; variable buddy on-call orientation based on case volume and comfort level

Additional Information

• Dress Code: Ceil blue scrubs provided; staff may bring own ceil blue scrubs (laundering provided)
• EMR System: Meditech 6
• Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and may not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
• Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved after submission
