Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts (0630-1830, 1830-0630)
Hours Guaranteed: 36 hours per week
Unit: Medical Surgical ICU
Beds: 34
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

• ICU: 1:1-2
• PCU: 1:4-5
• Med Surg: 1:5-6

Job Description

• Care for adult and pediatric patients over 15 years old
• Patient diagnoses include neuro surgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure (CRRT), general surgery, psych/OD, GI bleeds, cancer-specific surgeries, and more
• Use and manage advanced monitoring and equipment such as CVPs, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard, Bell Mont rapid transfuser
• RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
• Read and interpret telemetry strips (Draeger heart monitoring system) without tele/monitor tech support
• Float to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
• Participate in rapid response teams (RRTs) and codes as charge nurse when assigned
• Work in a fast-paced, high-volume tertiary hospital environment with a team-oriented culture involving collaboration with attendings, fellows, residents, and student providers

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of ICU or relevant unit experience
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Valid driver’s license required at submission
• Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation
• Adherence to fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry independently
• Strong critical thinking skills, positive attitude, teamwork, and communication skills

Orientation & Scheduling

• Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts
• Scheduling determined by manager based on unit needs (no self-scheduling)
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other holiday as needed

Additional Notes

• Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with certain affiliated facilities
• Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a ratio of 1:18

Summary

This is a 13-week ICU RN contract position requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience, critical care certifications, and the ability to manage complex patients and equipment in a fast-paced tertiary care setting. The role demands strong clinical skills, teamwork, and flexibility with floating and scheduling.
