Travel Nurse Opportunity: Med Surg / Ortho RN

Location: Kearney, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour nights

Job Description

Hospital in Central Nebraska is seeking a traveling Med Surg RN with Ortho experience. The nurse will need to be experienced in both general Med Surg and Orthopedics.

Unit Details

Department: Med Surg / Ortho
Beds: 22 (average daily census of 6)
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
Common Patient Diagnoses: Total knee replacements, total hip replacements, ankle replacements, total shoulders, spine (back and neck) surgeries
Charge Nurse: Yes, with assignment
Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio 1:13
Tele/Monitor Techs: Yes, tele techs read and interpret strips; RNs not required to read their own strips
Drip Titration: RNs are not required to titrate drips
Common Drips: Pain medications, antibiotics, blood

Scheduling & Requirements

Shifts: 0630-1830 and 1830-0630 (12-hour shifts)
Scheduling: Self-scheduling with cyclic rotation
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Rotate with permanent staff
Floating: May float to Med Surg, rehab, or PCU taking Med Surg acuity
Orientation: 1 day unit/department specific orientation
Block Scheduling: Not approved unless weekends only
Duo Scheduling: Not approved for same schedule or shared car

Required Qualifications

Current RN license for Nebraska
BLS Certification
Must pass a 90% or higher on a pass/fail open book exam during orientation
Driver’s license required at submittal (used to verify candidate is outside 50-mile radius)
No artificial nails allowed in patient care areas (refusal to remove will lead to contract termination)
Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity

Additional Notes

Attributes for success: Team-oriented, helpful to teammates, flexible, takes ownership, and willing to learn
Return to Office (RTO) needed upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract); additional RTO not approved
