Registered Nurse (RN) – High Acuity Unit
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Unit: Critical Care (8 beds)
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 (12-hour shifts)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2-3
- Patient types: Respiratory failure, post-surgical, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, cardiac patients
- Common skills required: PEG tube care/feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline care, tracheostomy care, managing sedated and ventilated patients
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Lasix, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levophed, Dopamine, Cardizem, and most ICU-level drips
- Respiratory Therapists available in-house 24/7; RNs troubleshoot ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow devices
- Telemetry: 8 ICU beds with Phillips hard-wired telemetry monitors; telemetry tech monitors centrally; RNs read their own strips
- No nurse aides or patient care techs on unit; nurses provide all primary care
- Hospitalist/Intensivist coverage: In-house during day shift; tele-health MD coverage after hours
- House Supervisor available 24/7
- Floating: ICU RNs may float to Medical-Surgical unit
- Orientation: 12 non-billable hours classroom plus 2 shifts (3 x 12-hour shifts) on unit with preceptor
- Dress code: Scrubs only; OSF-approved t-shirts allowed in any color
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend and to fill holes
- Holiday requirement: Holiday rotation and to fill holes
- Call/standby: Not currently required but subject to change
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Illinois RN license or proof that application process has been initiated
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
Additional Requirements
- Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels (drug-free campus)
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius of the facility

- Orientation hours are non-billable and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
- No charge nurse assigned; house supervisor available 24/7
- Scrub color is flexible within approved options

- Specialty experience: High acuity critical care nursing with skills in ventilator management, titrating drips, and complex patient care in ICU settings
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required for this position
