Registered Nurse (ICU) - Per Diem

Job Description

ICU Registered Nurses are needed for per diem shifts at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center. Work settings include Neuro Intensive Care Unit and Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year recent experience as a staff ICU RN or 2 years as a travel ICU RN
• Active RN License
• BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Certification
• Epic experience required
• Must be willing and comfortable to float to lower acuity units as needed (Med-Surg, Med-Surg/Telemetry, Telemetry, ED Holding)
• 2 professional references within the last 12 months (minimum 1 supervisor)

Orientation

• No formal orientation provided
• Clinicians must be prepared to work independently immediately after clearance
• Pre-start modules: 8 hours

Shift Details

• Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Pre-booking available via Shifts App
• Clinicians can submit availability for proactive marketing to facilities

Uniform

• Navy blue scrubs required

Certifications & Competencies

• ACLS (AHA Provider, Instructor, or RQI acceptable)
• BLS (AHA Provider, Instructor, or RQI acceptable)
• NIH Stroke Certification (required for ICU and ER)
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (Relias EKG Basic or Advanced depending on unit)
• Color Blind Testing (annual update required)
• Competency Exam (required by specialty)

Required Documents & Compliance

• Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Emergency Contact Form
• State RN License verification (primary source online verification required)
• NURSYS Verification for RN license
• Background check within 1 year, updated annually (7-year search including SS trace, county, nationwide, sex offender)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
• Employment application
• Unit-specific skills checklist (annual update)
• Internal evaluation if employed for 1 year or more (annual)
• 2 professional references within 12 months
• Aya Healthcare agency badge
• Photo for badge (clear headshot)
• Signed Saddleback Registry Acknowledgement prior to start

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask (N95) test within 1 year, renewed annually

  • Fit testing arranged through Employee Health for Saddleback Memorial Medical Center
• Negative TB test (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD) within 1 year, updated annually
• TB Questionnaire (annual)
• Immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B Surface Antibody (declination acceptable if low/equivocal)
  • Varicella
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within last 10 years (declination acceptable)
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year (urine or saliva; marijuana panel excluded per California law)
• Seasonal flu vaccine required November 1 - April 30 (declination acceptable with masking)
• COVID-19 vaccine not mandatory; vaccination records collected if available

Facility Policies & Training

• Review MemorialCare drug and alcohol free policy, dress and appearance policy, and hand hygiene policy (Saddleback specific) prior to start
• HIPAA education module completion required before Epic modules
• Epic education modules (~8 hours) must be completed prior to start (internal deadline Wednesday before start week)
• YouLearn modules not required for Per Diem at Saddleback
• Candidates must provide copies of completed HIPAA and Epic certificates

This position requires a highly skilled ICU RN ready to work independently with flexibility to float to other units as needed. Compliance with all certifications, health screenings, and facility-specific training is mandatory.
