Job Details
- Shift Length: 36 or 48 hours
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Emergency Department with approximately 60%-80% admitted patients; many ED rooms are "ED Holding"
- Level 1 trauma experience preferred
- Floating:
- Optional to Pediatric ED
- Expected to float to Adult PCUs based on staffing needs
- Potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma Department of Emergency (DOE)
- Weekend Requirement: Scheduled as needed (weekend days = Sat & Sun; weekend nights = Fri, Sat, Sun)
- On-call: No
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals: Not accepted within 75 miles
- Pending NM License accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: >7 days requires approval
- Guaranteed Hours: Contracted hours per week (36/40/48); facility may call off 3 times during 13-week assignment
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with completed exemption form
- Must have TNCC certification before submission
- NIH Stroke Certification can pend until compliance document due date before start
- No RQI certifications accepted
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience required; 1.5 years may be reviewed
- Travel experience strongly preferred; however, candidates with 2+ years Level 1 trauma experience may be considered
- First-time travelers accepted under above conditions
Required Certifications
- ACLS (AHA or ARC; RQI not accepted)
- BLS (AHA or ARC; RQI not accepted)
- PALS (AHA or ARC; RQI not accepted)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - must have before submission
- NIH Stroke Certification (any vendor acceptable)
- Pass/Fail Testing: Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam (80% overall, 100% lethal arrhythmia section) required for ED and related units
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) - as applicable
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ENPC, NRP for NICU/L&D)
Licensing & Background
- New Mexico RN license can be pending at time of submission
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted)
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start
- Education verification required (diploma/transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable)
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless completed within past 12 months)
- Social Security Card required
- Work history verification: minimum 3 years of previous work experience verified
- Two professional references within three years of hire
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Drug screen negative within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted
- COVID-19 vaccine no longer required but exemptions or declinations should be uploaded
- Fit mask testing required within 1 year of start (specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodation available if needed)
- Immunizations required:
- Rubeola (Measles) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Mumps - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Rubella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (history of disease not accepted)
- Hepatitis B - declination, series, or titer
Additional Notes
- No locals within 75 miles allowed for this travel assignment
- Increased number of admit holds currently in ED
- Medication administration including IV meds with documentation and communication of clinical findings expected
- Orientation includes Cerner training attestation (testing out possible for experienced candidates)
- OT applies after 48 hours on contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025
This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department RNs with Level 1 trauma experience who are comfortable with travel assignments and flexible floating within adult and pediatric units.
