Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts (1900 - 0700)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of Emergency Room (ER) experience
  • First-time travelers: Accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Regular floating within scope may be required between ED Hold area, departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility)
  • Pending license: Not accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Work Environment

  • Non-Trauma Emergency Department
  • Primary Stroke & STEMI Center
  • Typical ED patient diagnoses with occasional OB patients; may require management of mother/baby until transfer

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) and MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) preferred

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months of start (including statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks, run quarterly
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required
  • Fingerprinting required for certain assignments (especially in Illinois long-term care or rehab units)
  • Primary source verification of professional nursing license required
  • NURSYS verification required for RN licenses
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask (N95) testing required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers required or declination forms for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, and unit-specific competency exams
  • Color blindness testing within 12 months of start
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)

Policies & Training

  • Must review and sign facility policies including:
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement
    • Latex Allergy Questionnaire
    • Confidentiality Form
    • Hand Hygiene Policy
    • Fingernail Policy
    • Dress Code Policy
  • Required to complete facility-specific orientation and training modules prior to start (approximately 16 hours)
  • Must have a badge photo meeting facility standards (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)

Additional Notes

  • Floating between units and departments may be required to meet facility needs
  • No block scheduling accommodation
  • Must meet all compliance and credentialing requirements prior to start

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Kansas
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Proficient in triage procedures
