Job Description

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Rehab)
  • Patient Diagnoses: General Rehab, Stroke Rehab, Spinal Cord Rehab, Brain Injury Rehab
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes
  • Float Requirement: Yes
  • Call Requirement: No

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
  • Minimum 2 years of rehabilitation nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Certifications & Competencies (Commonly Required)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – may be required depending on unit
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification, TNCC, PALS, NRP)
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (annual)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (annual)
  • Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III) (annual)

Background & Health Requirements

  • Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam (within 12 months) may be required
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (recent testing required)
    • TB Questionnaire (annual)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titer proof
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or titer proof
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation (required during flu season with exemptions accepted)
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10 or 12 panel depending on hire date)

Additional Information

  • Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps longer than 30 days
  • Medication and competency exams require a minimum passing score of 80%
  • Compliance with employee appearance policy and facility-specific documentation required
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification may be required depending on unit

This position is ideal for experienced Rehab Registered Nurses with strong clinical skills and prior travel contract experience. Weekend and float flexibility are required.
