Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (ER)
- Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM), options for 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts
- Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: May be required to float between nearby campuses/units within scope due to census or staffing needs
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience within the last year
- Certifications:
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- PALS issued by American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Additional Requirements
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references, including at least one from the same unit
- Background Checks: Must include comprehensive checks (criminal, sex offender registry, employment, education verification, etc.) within required timeframes
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 90 days prior to start, cleared to work without restrictions
- Immunizations and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
- Drug screening (10-panel) within 90 days of start
- Respirator medical clearance annually
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style color photo with solid light background, frontal view, cropped from shoulders up
Orientation & Onboarding
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approximately 2-6 hours depending on location) prior to start
- Upload COVID vaccination records if available; if not vaccinated, must complete vaccination declination form
- Various facility-specific forms and agreements must be completed prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, contractor forms, ID badge request)
Work Environment
- Acute care hospital with 304 staffed beds
- Charting via Epic system
- Parking available at no cost with facility-issued pass
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require participation in emergency response teams; consider this before accepting assignment
Notes
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Local candidates may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Block scheduling accommodations may be requested but are not guaranteed
This position is ideal for ER Registered Nurses with at least 1 year of experience, who hold a valid South Carolina or Compact RN license, and have required certifications including ACLS, BLS, PALS, and NIH Stroke Certification. Experience with Epic and flexibility to float between units is necessary.
