Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU/Neuro Stepdown

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Role: Registered Nurse in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Neuro Stepdown
  • Targeted Start Date: April 6 (urgent need)
  • Floating: May be required to float to Med/Surg, Neuro, Stepdown, PCU units
  • Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend
  • Blocked Scheduling: Not available
  • On-Call: Not required
  • First-Time Travelers: Accepted
  • Local Candidates: Accepted (within 75 miles)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Neuro PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience, with at least 1 year of Neuro PCU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Additional Requirements & Information

  • Scrub color: Royal Blue
  • Orientation sessions held bi-weekly
  • Must have 2 professional references from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
  • Background checks and verifications required, including but not limited to:
    • Criminal background check within 90 days
    • Employment and education verification
    • Drug testing (10-panel, negative result required within 30 days of start)
  • Health documents required:
    • Physical exam within 12 months
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Polio vaccine or attestation
    • Seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory)
  • Must complete competency exams and unit-specific training during orientation
  • Must set up a guest account prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems

Notes for Candidates

  • Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some document requirements waived or accepted on file.
  • Candidates must complete all required online modules prior to orientation.
  • Failure to complete required competency checklists within 3 weeks of start may result in contract cancellation.
  • No blocked scheduling or on-call shifts for this position.
  • Flu vaccine refusal will result in contract cancellation.

This position is suitable for nurses with at least 2 years of recent experience, comfortable working in PCU/Neuro stepdown settings, and who meet all licensure and certification requirements. Prior travel experience is not required.
