Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Neuro (Travel/Contract)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Unit & Patient Population

• Mixed Acuity: Medical Surgical, Telemetry, and Stepdown care levels
• 48-bed unit specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery
• Patient conditions include strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, and other neurological disorders
• Eight beds equipped for long-term EEG monitoring
• Multi-care level unit; nurses may care for up to six Med Surg patients simultaneously

Staffing Ratios

• Medical Surgical/Telemetry: 1:5 (day), 1:6 (night), occasionally 1:7 (rare)
• Stepdown: 1:3-4 (day and night)

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting
• EPIC electronic charting experience required
• Drip medication administration required on all floors
• First-time travel nurses not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
• Must be prepared to float frequently within scope, including to other campuses and various units (e.g., Neuro, Trauma, Observation)
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract
• Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
• Pending license accepted if not in hand at application, but booking will be delayed by six weeks
• 100% nicotine-free facility

Required Certifications & Compliance

• Current RN license for Nebraska (primary source verification required prior to start)
• ACLS, BLS, and other certifications as applicable per unit (AHA standards)
• Background check within 30 days of start, including multiple county/state/federal screenings
• Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually
• Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tdap within last 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with TB questionnaire if positive history
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) with boosters if titers low or equivocal
  • Hepatitis B titer or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
  • Flu vaccine documentation or declination required for 2025-2026 season
  • COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemptions accepted
• Annual skills checklist required
• Two professional references from the past 2 years required

Additional Information

• Travelers are first to float to meet staffing needs
• Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat)
• Up to two weeks of time off (RTO) allowed, must be requested with application; additional time off at manager discretion
• Scrubs: Steele gray scrubs with facility logo required (provided after confirmation)
• Parking available via permit (~$55/month) or daily rate (~$3 for 20 hours)
