Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Oncology Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio

Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a mixed acuity PCU and Medical-Surgical unit specializing in oncology and bone marrow transplant (BMT).
- Patient diagnoses include various hematologic malignancies and disorders such as:
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
- Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Adult)
- Amyloidosis
- Aplastic Anemia
- Chronic Leukemia (including CLL and CML)
- Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
- Multiple Myeloma
- Myelodysplastic Syndrome
- Myeloproliferative Disorders
- Special procedures include:
- Autologous, Syngeneic, and Allogeneic stem cell transplants
- CAR-T Therapy
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1 year of Hematology/Oncology nursing experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
- Medical-Surgical nursing experience required.
- Skills required:
- Central line blood draws
- PICC line management
Shift Details
- Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM).
- Rotating 12-hour day/night shifts possible depending on department needs; shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but not guaranteed.
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Preferred Certifications
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification (not required)
Licensure
- Must hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Ohio.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting with specific Ohio codes.
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) required.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending results allowed).
- Monthly monitoring through workforce monitoring systems for EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG.
- High school diploma or GED verification required.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and freedom from contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%).
References and Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leader.
- Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates.
- Skills checklist required.

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
